Barge loading facility at BPCL Irimpanam
The barge loading facility at Bharat Petroleum Corporation’s Irimpanam installation was inaugurated by Mr Ashok Sinha CMD. With the commissioning of this facility, which is located on the banks of Chitrapuzha River at Irimpanam installation
, BPCL will be able to offer bunkers of Furnace Oil & HF-HSD to inland vessels at competitive rates in Kochi.
The
first exclusive International Bunkering Terminal of BPCL was
inaugurated at JNPT in May followed by the similar facilities in Kochi
port in July.
In spite of the potential available in this sector, the
bunker markets could not progress mainly due to inadequate
infrastructure and high incidence of taxation and prices.
Dedicated
barge loading facilities would enhance BPCL’s bunkering trade from Kochi
as bunker fuels could be offered directly to prospective bunker
customers.
Further, with the concessions announced by the State for
international bunkering, coupled with upcoming mega maritime projects of
Kochi port, it is expected that traffic would grow exponentially,
resulting in significant bunker volumes.
Inland Waterways Authority
of India has been instrumental in extending their support for the
successful completion of the jetty on the water channel which is part of
National Waterways III.
BPCL has also partnered with globally
renowned pioneers in international bunkering- Mabanaft Gmbh & Co,
having their presence worldwide through a joint venture company Matrix
Bharat Marine Services Pte Ltd based in Singapore.
The function was
well attended by dignitaries from Inland Waterways Authority of India,
BPCL, representatives of shipping community and other stakeholders.
